Sniff...A Summary of Summer

It's sad, but true: Summer is over. Today I went back to school, throwing myself in for the first long day of meetings. Sure, sure, summer isn't officially over until the end of September, but we all know once those back-to-school sales show up, summer's gone.

Still, I'm not complaining, just crying a bit to myself. This summer was so nice. I was a terrible blogger, and even though I'd love to sit down and pound out ten posts about summer events, I can't. So...here's the summary, in one long blog post.

We kicked off the summer with a fantastic week-long anniversary trip. Oh, it was wonderful. Paso Robles, Pismo, Avila. I'm already dreaming of a visit back to Avila La Fonda ASAP–their rates are cheaper in the fall, you know.

In June, we went and saw my favorite band right now, All Sons and Daughters, with a pre-show dinner in celebration of Steph's 30th birthday!

Before we knew it, July was here. We made a last minute trip to visit Chels and Roger in San Francisco, spending a day with them then staying in their apartment while they went away for the weekend. It was awesome watching the Fourth of July fireworks over the San Francisco bay! We also spent a good few hours at Lands End, among other fun places.
Our last big hoorah was spending a week in Carlsbad with my family! It was so great - Carly and Camille were able to stay for the whole time, which was extremely special. Wish Chels would have been able to stay, as well as the bro-in-laws. Next year, we're making it work out!

Carlsbad was busy this year -- we did a Foodie Tour in downtown San Diego, which happened to be the weekend of Comic-Con. (Fun seeing all those crazies...kinda jealous I wasn't wearing some fabulous Hogwarts robes!) We stopped in Old Towne San Diego, which I was not too impressed with, although I hear has great Mexican food. We spent a day at the Del Mar Races, which was fantastic! I even won a little money! Then lost it. We had a whole afternoon and evening with John and Kelly, getting to visit their little ones again and kissing on the new babe. And in between all that we soaked up the sun, played in the water, found seashells, watched movies, and ate a lot of great food. It was fabulous.
And in between all those big trips were lots of little wonderful moments. Hanging out with our families and friends, enjoying chips and Mom's homemade salsa, lounging by the pool, shopping, sewing, reading. Oh and course working on our new blogging adventure.

As hard as I tried not to let it happen, somehow the days turned into nights and time passed. If any of you figure out a way not to time fly when you're having fun, please hand that on to me.

I hope you all had a great summer! And here we begin the 2013-2014 year!

  1. Good Lord, I thought it was Wednesday, and you were going to your meetings tomorrow...I guess that's what happens when you get very little sleep. Guh! Well, I hope it wasn't terribly painful to be back in the school swing. I hope you have a good weekend before you're bombarded with students!
