New York, Day 2

Most of our time yesterday was concentrated on the lower west side, and today we ventured up to the upper west side. Part of my desire to see this area is because You've Got Mail is one of my favorite movies. (Robby always jokes that he's seen it more than I have because when we were dating, we'd put it on, I'd fall asleep, and he'd be stuck watching it.) The movie is set in the upper west side, and the final scene where Joe Fox and Kathleen Kelly meet is none other than Riverside Park, specifically the Gardens at 91st Street, where we spent a majority of our afternoon.

The park is absolutely beautiful. It runs along the Hudson River, so at many points it's possible to look out and see the water. The flowers were stunning, different than those along the High Line. The hydrangeas had me captivated. Where we live, we usually only see pink and maybe white, but here there were light pink, hot pink, white, blue, and purple. A magenta rose also caught my attention.

After our leisure stay in Riverside Park (where we enjoyed hot dogs for lunch), we walked around the neighborhoods. They were gorgeous! The buildings are old and beautiful and the tree-lined streets are amazing.
We had an afternoon snack at a little cafe: pizza (of course), chocolate cake (amazing!) and coffee. Here's my food-loving husband again, enjoying a bite. I think I'm going to try to get an eating picture everyday and make a collage.
By this point, it was time for us to get back to our apartment and have a rest before meeting Chelsea for dinner. Chelsea picked out another great restaurant for us to try in an area we hadn't been before. We took the subway to St. Mark's street and ate at Cara Cas, a Venezuelan restaurant, where we enjoyed arepas (somewhat like a corn pita, but way better), Venezuelan chips and guacamole, and some type of fried cheese ball appetizer. It was tasty, and even Robby liked it. It was also special seeing Jordan, Chelsea's long-time friend who lives in the area. After a stop at a cupcake shop (it appears this is the thing in New York) and in Union Square, we headed back home.

So, another fulfilling day, and we are back at our apartment, where I am currently icing my knees. Yes, it appears my sore knees may end up being somewhat of a problem this week. We think I have "Runners Knee" -- ironic, I know, since I am not a runner. Apparently my little work-out routine I started last week strained them. I will do my best to take it easy, which I'm supposed to do, but I don't want to miss out!
(By the way, pictures tomorrow will include Carly and Camille, as they are flying in as we speak! The fun just doesn't stop!)
